How do you remove objects from the background of a photo on the Pixel 6 Pro?

In short

Open the photo, tap Edit, then Tools, and choose Magic Eraser. Google suggests objects, but you can also draw over what should go yourself.

Step by step

  1. Open the photo with something distracting in the background, for example an object or a person.
  2. Tap Edit.
  3. Open Tools.
  4. Tap Magic Eraser.
  5. Tap the highlighted suggestions to remove them, or draw over what should go yourself.

Jen demonstrates this with a calendar in the background of a photo that could be removed this way. In her view, how well it works depends on the background. For a first edit, she finds the result decent.
