How do you turn on one-handed mode on a Pixel with Android 12?

In short

In Settings, under Accessibility and System controls, open one-handed mode and turn on pulling the screen down. Then you pull the top area down using the small bar.

Step by step

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Choose Accessibility, then System controls.
  3. Open One-handed mode.
  4. Turn on the option that lets you pull the display down so that the top area slides down.
  5. Swipe down from the small bar at the bottom edge to use one-handed mode.
  6. If you like, also turn on the shortcut for one-handed mode. Then a small icon stays on the screen permanently.

One-handed mode is quicker to reach in Android 12 than before, but you have to turn it on in Settings first. Jen says the setting is a bit hidden and you have to know where it is.

According to Jen, everyone has to decide for themselves whether the shortcut as an icon on the screen is practical.
