How do you clear the cache of apps on Android?
In short
In Settings, go to Apps and sort by storage used, open the biggest app, choose Storage and clear only the cache there. Do not clear all data.
Step by step
- Open Settings and tap Apps.
- Sort the apps by storage used.
- Check which apps use the most storage. Typical examples are Instagram or the Google Chrome browser.
- For such an app, tap Storage. There you can see how much space the cache takes up.
- Tap Clear data.
- Choose Clear cache.
- Repeat this for all apps with a large cache.
You need this if your smartphone is full or getting slow. The cache is an app’s temporary storage. After clearing it, you have storage space again, and according to Jen the smartphone runs a bit snappier again.
Jen warns: Under no circumstances choose the option to clear all data. Then all of the app’s data is gone, for example the bookmarks in the browser.
