Two brand-new smart home devices from Xiaomi: Mijia fridge and washer-dryer

I am in Xiaomi’s showroom in Madrid, and we do not have anything like this in Germany. Xiaomi shows many products from its portfolio there: smartphones, wearables, tablets, TVs, scooters and everyday products. Two devices are new: Xiaomi is taking the step into the home appliance category, with current technology at a low price.

Mijia Cross Door fridge-freezer 502L

The first thing you notice is the high-quality brushed silver design. It feels premium, and fingerprints do not stand a chance.

• Space: 502 liters of total volume and a space utilization rate of 51.36%. The walls are very thin and well insulated, so there is more room inside without the device taking up half the kitchen.
• Doors: They can be opened at a 90-degree angle. So you can place the fridge against a wall on the right or left and still open the doors completely.
• Odors: The AG+ Fresh system uses silver ion modules that inhibit bacteria and eliminate odors.
• Variable compartment: The temperature of one compartment can be set between -1 and +5 degrees, for example for fresh meat at 0 degrees or as an extra fruit compartment at +5 degrees.
• Controls: Settings can be changed on the outer display or via the Xiaomi Home app. If the fridge is connected to the app, you get a message when the door is not closed properly.
• Freezer section: It is divided into several zones so the aromas do not mix.
• Technology: The dual inverter system of compressor and fan makes the device whisper quiet, and it uses hardly any power.
• Warranty: In addition to the usual two years, Xiaomi gives 10 years of warranty on the compressor.

Mijia Washer Dryer Pro 9KG

The washer-dryer combines a washing machine and a dryer in one device. That saves space and time, because the laundry can be dried automatically after washing. It is 25% more energy efficient than EU class A.

Note: It washes up to 9 kg but dries only 6 kg. With a full load, you have to take out 3 kg before drying.

• Motor: The direct drive motor works without a belt, which means less friction and less noise. Xiaomi gives a 12-year warranty on it.
• Quick programs: Smart Wash cleans deeply in just 36 minutes, and Quick Wash for your favorite T-shirt takes only 12 minutes.
• Dual Autodosing: You fill in detergent and fabric softener once, and the machine then doses the amount the load needs.
• Steam: The steam function kills 99.99% of all bacteria, which is great for allergy sufferers.
• Dry Only: This program removes odors from clothes using only hot air, without getting them wet.
• Controls: Via LCD touchscreen or the Xiaomi Home app.
• Anti-wrinkle protection: If you forget the laundry, the drum keeps turning to prevent wrinkles and mustiness.

Prices

Verdict

I think it is great that Xiaomi is now also entering large household appliances. For a double-door fridge, the price is really low. For the washer-dryer, the features and price are unbeatable: if I needed one, I would not think about it for long.
