Wireless charging (Qi)

With wireless charging, the device lies on a charging pad and is charged by induction without a plug. The widely used standard for this is called Qi.

What does Wireless charging (Qi) mean?

There is a coil in the charging pad and one in the device. When the two are lined up, a magnetic field transfers the energy. This is convenient, but slower and less efficient than charging with a cable, because some of the energy is lost as heat.

It is important that the device sits exactly on the coil. Newer standards such as Qi2 solve this with magnets that pull the device into the right position by themselves.

A general explanation of the term, not from a video. How it plays out on a specific device in everyday use is covered in the reviews below.
