Honor Smartphones

Verdict in brief

The Honor Magic 8 Pro is a state-of-the-art high-end smartphone: the 6,270 mAh battery and the night shots make it one of the best phones of 2026 for Jen. Her biggest criticism: the AI for zoom and night shots only works with an internet connection.

Pros

  • Huge silicon-carbon battery, iOS connectivity, outstanding night shots.

Cons

  • AI features only available online, unnecessary camera button.

Friends, the new Honor Magic 8 Pro is finally here! I have now tested it intensively and can tell you: it’s a real flagship monster, but as always the devil is in the details. After I was out and about for you at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, I wanted to know whether this year’s smartphone trends hold up in everyday life what they promise.

Here are my very personal highs and lows of the Honor Magic 8 Pro, which should help you with your buying decision.

What I love about the Honor Magic 8 Pro (My highs)

1. Design that just fits: Compared to its predecessor, at first glance not that much has changed visually, but that’s deceptive! It’s a few grams lighter and a touch slimmer. At 6.71 inches it sits insanely well in the hand. And folks, the color Sunrise Gold? An absolute dream and a real premium feel!

2. Battery power without end: We finally get the huge 6,270 mAh silicon-carbon battery in Europe too. That’s a statement! Paired with 100W wired and 80W wireless charging, you really don’t have to worry about empty batteries anymore.

3. Finally: connectivity with iOS! For me this is a real highlight. With the new Magic OS 10 (based on Android 16) we can now use Honor Connect to easily share photos and documents with iPhones, iPads and MacBooks. So if you like to switch between worlds, like me, you’ll love it!

4. The “Ultra Night” camera: The camera specs sound similar to the Magic 7 Pro on paper, but the new AI-powered Ultra Night Engine really blows me away. Whether with the 50 MP wide-angle or the 200 MP periscope telephoto camera: the night shots are truly impressive this year.

What puts me in a grumpy mood (My lows)

1. AI only with a connection

This is my biggest criticism: the great AI engines for zoom and night shots only work when you have an internet connection. So if you’re on vacation somewhere in a dead zone, there’s no AI optimization. Bummer!

2. The camera button

Honor now has a button on the side for camera control. Honestly? Nobody really needs this button, and if you’re building something new on the hardware side anyway, you could have come up with something of your own.

3. Where is the AI Agent?

Remember the cool AI Agent that Honor promised at MWC last year? The one that controls the whole phone by voice command? There’s still no trace of it. Instead there’s the “AI Memory”, which is basically just a clipboard that reads out texts. For me that’s not a real AI revolution yet.

My verdict

The Honor Magic 8 Pro is an absolute high-end smartphone. The huge battery and the crazy night shots make it one of the best phones of 2026. It’s absolutely “state of the art”, no more, but no less either.

What do you say? Would you switch for the battery, or do the AI limitations bother you? Let me know in the comments, I’m curious about your opinion!
