Xiaomi Smartphones

Verdict in brief

From an RRP of €499.90, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G offers a strong overall package: high-quality build, a 6,500 mAh battery and a very bright display. Wireless charging is missing, it still runs HyperOS 2 out of the box, and many apps are preinstalled.

Pros

  • Hefty 6500 mAh silicon-carbon battery for extreme battery life
  • 100-watt HyperCharge (0 to 100% in about 40 minutes)
  • Outstanding robustness with SGS 5-star certification
  • Bright 3200 nits AMOLED display with AI Wet Touch function
  • Premium feel thanks to the aluminum frame and a faux leather option

Cons

  • No wireless charging or reverse wireless charging
  • Ships with HyperOS 2 instead of the current version 3
  • Lots of preinstalled bloatware during initial setup
  • Sound quality noticeably drops at the maximum 400% volume boost
  • Front camera videos only possible in Full HD instead of 4K

Xiaomi has upped its game again and refreshed its popular mid-range line with the Redmi Note 15 series. The absolute top model of the series, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G, promises features you would otherwise rather know from the upper class. But is the price of almost 500 euros really worth it? I took a close look for you!

The powerhouse: battery and charging

One of the absolute highlights is the new silicon-carbon battery.

  • Capacity: With a hefty 6,500 mAh, it delivers clearly more endurance than the predecessor.
  • Speed: It charges wired at 100 watts, which takes the smartphone from 0 to 100% in about 40 minutes.
  • Bonus: Thanks to 22.5 watts of reverse wired charging, you can even charge other devices over a cable from your Redmi.
  • Trade-off: Unfortunately, wireless charging was left out completely.

“Titan Tough”: robustness without compromise

For the design, Xiaomi relies on the so-called titan structure to emphasize resilience.

  • Materials: The frame is made of high-quality aluminum. Depending on the color you choose, you get a back made of fiberglass (blue/black) or elegant faux leather (Mocha Brown).
  • Protection: Thanks to Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 and a special SGS certification, the device is supposed to survive drops from up to 2.5 meters onto hard surfaces unscathed.
  • Verdict: For us that means: if you are brave, you can actually save yourself the case!

Camera: 200 megapixels and smart zoom

As with the predecessor, the camera offers 200 megapixels, but uses a new HPE sensor. It makes up for the missing telephoto camera through “sensor cropping” (cutting out from the center of the sensor).

  • Photo quality: In good light, the results, especially at 2x zoom, are on the level of a real optical zoom.
  • Video: Recording is possible in 4K at a maximum of 30 FPS. In low light, though, quality drops relatively quickly.
  • Selfies: The front camera has been bumped up to 32 megapixels, but unfortunately only films in Full HD.

Display and performance

The 6.83-inch CrystalRes AMOLED display is extremely bright with a peak brightness of up to 3,200 nits and has super thin bezels.

  • Innovation: A brilliant feature is AI Wet Touch. The AI detects water, oil or sweat on the display and increases touch sensitivity so that you can use it normally even with wet hands.
  • Cooling: Under the hood, the Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 together with Xiaomi’s “IceLoop” cooling system ensures stable performance during intensive tasks.

Light and shadow: my points of criticism

Despite the many premium features, there are a few things that bother me:

  • Software: The device comes with HyperOS 2 (Android 15), even though HyperOS 3 is already available. You have to wait in line for the rollout here.
  • Bloatware: As usual, many apps are preinstalled and already preselected during setup.
  • Sound: The advertised “400% Volume Boost” makes the phone loud, but sound quality noticeably suffers at full volume.

Verdict: a value-for-money knockout?

From a recommended retail price (RRP) of €499.90, the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G offers a really strong overall package. The high-quality build, the huge battery and the fantastic display make the device look clearly more expensive than it is. For me, the series has once again kept its promise of good value for money.
