Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7

What does Jen say about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7?

Jen would buy the Galaxy Z Fold 7 again, but a bit disillusioned: she hardly uses the inner display. In return, durability, battery and slim design convince. Because of the high expectations for the inner display, it is worth asking beforehand how you would really use it.

Pros

  • Hinge still just as stable after 4 months, crease unchanged
  • Body handles drops and a bag full of keys well without a case
  • Matte black back seems scratch-proof
  • Closed like a normal smartphone, open a very thin tablet
  • Battery lasts more than a day, no decline after 4 months

Cons

  • Closed, it wobbles on the table because of the camera bump
  • Slight creaking when opening the hinge
  • Keyboard on the inner display doesn't work for Jen
  • Instagram in the unfolded format is no fun
  • 4,400 mAh is not great

Honor Magic V6

What does Jen say about the Honor Magic V6?

On paper, the Honor Magic V6 is clearly ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra in battery, charging, display, protection and telephoto camera. In the Fold8 Ultra's favor are DeX, the Galaxy AI suggestions in split screen and the Samsung ecosystem.

Pros

  • Magic V6: 6,660 mAh, 80-watt charging and 66-watt wireless
  • Magic V6: LTPO2 AMOLED with 5,000 nits and 4,320 Hz PWM dimming
  • Magic V6: IP68/IP69 and 65-megapixel periscope telephoto
  • Fold8 Ultra: crease 99.9% invisible according to Samsung, Samsung DeX and Galaxy AI in split screen
  • Both devices very slim and light

Cons

  • Fold8 Ultra: only 5,000 mAh, 45-watt charging, 20-watt wireless
  • Fold8 Ultra: only IP48, 10-megapixel telephoto, camera bump makes it wobble on the table
  • Fold8 Ultra: display only up to 3,000 nits
  • Magic V6: video only up to 4K, Honor's ecosystem convinces Jen less for smartwatches and earbuds
