SoundPeats Headphones

Verdict in brief

At €39.99, the SoundPeats Mini impress with outstanding sound, excellent call quality, and a very small case. An app and active noise cancelling are missing. A good alternative to expensive headphones from Apple and Samsung.

Pros

  • Outstanding, clear sound without hiss
  • Excellent call quality
  • The smallest charging case Jen has ever had
  • Firm, comfortable fit with silicone tips in several sizes
  • Extensive touch controls

Cons

  • No app, so no extra modes like bass boost
  • No active noise cancelling
  • The earbuds' LEDs light up when paused, which feels unpleasant

Once again from the “Good & Cheap” series: the manufacturer provided me with the SoundPeats Mini Bluetooth earbuds. No money was paid for the video, and the manufacturer had no say in the content. I tested them for two weeks.

Price and features

Everything here has to be seen against the backdrop that the earbuds cost just 39.99 euros. They come in white and black. I’m glad I got the black ones, they look really cool.

They are compatible with Android and iOS. Pairing is simple and quick, and you don’t need to download an additional app.

Charging case and what’s in the box

The charging case is the smallest I have ever held with Bluetooth earbuds. Samsung and Apple are welcome to take a leaf out of their book, as their cases are enormous by comparison. The box also includes a charging cable and, surprisingly for the price, silicone tips in different sizes.

Fit and noise isolation

These are in-ear earbuds that reach into the ear canal with the silicone tips. That has two advantages:

  • Fit: they sit firmly and comfortably at the same time. During workouts and walks, I never felt like they could fall out.
  • Natural noise isolation: the silicone tips seal the ear canal well.

They don’t have active noise cancelling like the Apple AirPods or the Samsung Galaxy Buds. At this price, that’s not surprising and not necessarily needed.

Calls

According to the manufacturer, there is noise cancelling for calls. It reduces ambient noise for the person you are talking to and boosts your voice. The call quality is truly excellent. My voice comes across loud, clear, and without interference. During a long call, my brother was convinced I was speaking directly into the phone.

Battery and controls

The manufacturer states five hours of runtime per charge. With the case, it is 20 hours in total. I can confirm that the earbuds lasted through several hours of conference calls, podcasts, and music without a recharge. You read the charge level on the front of the case. The earbuds have their own LED that lights up red or green.

The touch controls are much more extensive than on the expensive models from Samsung and Apple. You can stop music, skip forward and back, change the volume, accept or decline calls, and call up your smartphone’s voice assistant. The earbuds are IP65 certified.

Sound

The sound is, without beating around the bush, outstandingly good: full, clear, without hiss or crackling. For music, podcasts, and videos, the SoundPeats definitely impress.

Criticisms

  • No app: this doesn’t bother me personally, I don’t need any more settings. But it also means you can’t set extra modes like bass boost.
  • LEDs when paused: when you pause playback, the little LEDs on the earbuds light up. That looks strange, and I find it rather unpleasant. When you resume playback, they go out again.

Verdict

In my view, the SoundPeats Mini impress across the board at 39.99 euros. They are a really good alternative to the expensive Bluetooth headphones from Apple and Samsung.
