Google services on Huawei devices

New Huawei devices come without the Play Store and without Google apps. Workarounds such as the Aurora Store and microG still let you use many apps.

What does Google services on Huawei devices mean?

The reason is US trade restrictions, because of which Google may no longer license its services to Huawei. Huawei therefore relies on its own store, the AppGallery.

The Aurora Store is an alternative way to access the apps from the Play Store. microG is a free re-implementation of the Google services that many apps need in the background, for example for notifications or maps.

Much of it runs as usual this way. Limitations mainly exist where apps require a device security confirmed by Google. This affects, for example, paying with Google Wallet and some banking apps.

A general explanation of the term, not from a video. How it plays out on a specific device in everyday use is covered in the reviews below.
